Kaleido™ is a short‑wave infrared (SWIR) hyperspectral camera developed by Teledyne DALSA to address the performance, integration, and cost challenges of industrial hyperspectral inspection. It is designed for demanding sorting and inspection applications such as recycling, food, pharmaceutical, wood, and waste processing, where accurate material discrimination and high throughput are essential. Fully designed and manufactured by Teledyne, including the sensor, spectrograph, and interface, Kaleido delivers high spatial resolution, fast line rates, and consistent spectral accuracy in a compact, integrator‑ready platform.

High Throughput SWIR Hyperspectral Camera

Kaleido provides up to 1,280 x 256 pixel resolution with readout rates exceeding 2.3 kHz, enabling more material to be inspected in less time without compromising spectral performance. This helps reduce overall system throughput cost while improving classification accuracy in high‑speed production environments.

Optimized sensor responsivity delivers strong signal levels even in low‑light conditions, reducing illumination requirements and enabling effective use of modern SWIR LED lighting.

Simplified Setup and Reliable Spectral Performance

Kaleido is delivered fully calibrated and ready to use, with a lens included and options available to support different fields of view and working distances.  It also incorporates features designed to reduce system complexity and accelerate deployment: 

  • Programmable spectral band selection
  • Programmable spatial zone(s) selection
  • Spectrograph‑based aberration correction
  • Consistent spectral calibration across units for the full operating temperature range

These capabilities improve repeatability between systems and support faster time to market for machine builders and system integrators.

Efficient Data Delivery and Integration

The camera incorporates proven functionality from Teledyne DALSA’s award‑winning camera families, including:

  • Frame and multi-frame triggers
  • Meta‑data support
  • 10 GigE Vision standard interface

These features ensure that only the required data is delivered to the processing engine, reducing system load and improving overall efficiency.

Kaleido employs the ENVI hyperspectral file format using a 10 GigE interface fully compliant with GenICam® standards, enabling straightforward integration into existing machine vision and hyperspectral inspection platforms.
